When a patient's hospital stay is relatively long (usually more than one month), inpatient data is reported monthly, so calculating a single hospitalization requires consolidating the split-billing records under the same case. 2. Supplementary (late) reports should be handled carefully: when calculating costs, supplementary reports should be included in the total; however, when calculating medical utilization (visits or patient-days), a complete supplementary report should be counted, but a partial-fee supplementary report should not be double-counted. 3. The key for grouping records into the same hospitalization: ID + HOSP_ID + IN_DATE. 4. The key for linking records to an individual and matching individual data: ID. 5. The key for linking records to a medical institution and matching institutional data: HOSP_ID.
