Cardiovascular Database — Main File

1. Using the "International Classification of Disease code" field in the NHI Outpatient Detail File (H_NHI_OPDTE) and the "primary/secondary diagnosis code" field in the NHI Inpatient Detail File (H_NHI_IPDTE), cases falling within the coding range that meets the definition of cardiovascular disease (see Appendix 1 for detailed codes) and having 2 or more outpatient diagnoses or 1 or more hospitalizations within one year are defined as cardiovascular disease patients. 2. Because it is difficult to distinguish prevalent cases from newly diagnosed cases using the first year of NHI data, data from 2001 to 2023 were extracted in order to obtain valid newly diagnosed cardiovascular disease cases. 3. See Appendix 2 for details of the data-cleaning process.

Applies only to the primary tumor site. 0: Not a paired organ; 1: Primary origin on the right; 2: Primary origin on the left; 3: Unilateral involvement only, but origin (left/right) unclear; 4: Bilateral involvement but laterality of origin unclear, record describes a single primary (uncommon) — e.g. single-histology tumor in both ovaries; bilateral retinoblastomas; bilateral Wilms tumors; 5: Paired organ, midline tumor; 9: Paired organ, laterality unclear.

1. Personal ID and hospital code (HOSP_ID) are encrypted. 2. The primary key of this file is the encrypted personal ID. 3. The key value to match with other medical records files: encrypted personal ID. 4. Cases in the main file that have the same value in the对照档(SUBCLASS) field as those in the对照档(CVD_CTRL) are cases from the same matched group.
